David Gerrold quote

After discovering that ADRs cost more to treat than the original medications, that they are the prime cause of malpractice suits, & the 4th most common cause of death, I ran across this David Gerrold statement:
Life is hard. Then you die. Then they throw dirt in your face. Then the worms eat you. Be grateful it happens in that order.
(Adverse Drug Reactions)

Hey at least if they threw the dirt before you died, you'd be able to throw it back at them!

The quote comes from a story where giant alien worms invade earth and eat people alive. Hence, better to be eaten by worms after you are dead.

Where do you get your "4th most common cause of death" statistic?

Neither WHO nor ABS list it in the top 20.

We are taught that the principle cause of malpractice lawsuits is poor physician notes :-)

Seriously, the most common cause of malpractice lawsuits is misdiagnosis not ADRs.

In order to successfully sue a doctor for an ADR you have to convince the court that (1) the doctor did not warn you about the possibility of the ADR and (2) if s/he had warned you, you would not have taken the drug.
