The compo is on! NASA and X-Prize have put USD$2.5M in as the seed of a new lunar shot:
“In the case of this competition, it is really a marriage of the kind of rockets, the kind of landing systems we need for the return to the Moon,” said Brant Sponberg, Program Manager of Centennial Challenges at NASA
Burt Rutan (and he's probably not alone here) is not entirely happy with the proposal, but as long it doesn't become an idle/blocking placeholder shutting out more worthy progress, it should at least get things started — even if the final CEV works out to be completely different in real life.
