Scientists have now seriously xrayed the Antikythera Mechanism, a mysterious mechanical device found in a shipwreck by a sponge-diver sheltering from a storm in 1900.
They’re being all mysterious about what it actually does, but they did find lettering buried in the gears which amounts to an instruction manual for it.
It is essentially a wrecked mechanical device about the size of a small desktop PC, but it’s amusing seeing 21st-century science struggling hard to untangle this piece of 1st-century science.
